Electrical Eggs is a charity to provide access for disabled people at SF conventions. Bhen was anxious to help out!

In 1975 I produced the first cover for F&SF featuring Bhen (the benevolent B.E.M.), in this case peering at Viking 1 as it searches diligently for life. (At those cameras' scan rate, he wouldn't even have shown up if he walked around the lander.) He proved so popular that to date Bhen has featured in ten covers, usually making unorthodox use of some piece of NASA hardware. Bhen may appear to be the archetypal 'little green man' but he is in fact over two and a half metres tall, if you compare him with the hardware. A set of four Bhen postcards is available from AstroArt.

In this Fantasy & Science Fiction (F&SF) cover, Bhen sits astride an Intelsat communications satellite with his TV plugged in, watching ~ Alien?

The second 'Bhen' cover (May 1976) shows Bhen 'joyriding' on the Lunar Rover left behind at Hadley Base by Apollo 15. His actual size ~ about two and a half metres ~ can be judged from the rover.

The most recent (and possibly final ~ though who knows?) Bhen cover shows the green alien taking a pot-shot, fairground-style, at a ball kept aloft by one of Triton's geysers, with Neptune looming behind. (See Neptune page in PlanetSearch).

Don't forget that prints of any Bhen image are also available!
