Moon to Mars: The Exploration of Space

Humans have stood upon the Moon, and the next step for manned exploration (long overdue. in view of the fact that a man last left the lunar surface 30 years ago. . .) is Mars. Beyond lie all the stars of the Galaxy in this symbolic painting.

Eruption on Io

One of the most fascinating worlds to be discovered by unmanned probes is Jupiter's highly volcanic moon, Io. Here I have shown the plume of an eruption silhouetted dark against the cloud belts.

Iapetus: A Whole World in a Rock
Acrylics on stretched canvas, 30 x 40 inches/76 x 102cm, £2000.

Iapetus is the only satellite of Saturn from which the rings can be seen 'open'. I see this painting almost as an abstract, because rather than a conventional landscape it is an experiment in the textures and shapes of rock, and also in light and shade. I used no reference material, having seen many such lava rocks in Iceland and Hawaii.
